I’m Jimmy Costello, aka ‘The Musical Maggid’, and creator of the Jewish Kids Music Workshop.
My passion is sharing the joy of Jewish music. I have been blessed to sing and inspire thousands of people and I look forward to singing with you. I invite you to join me for an experience of Jewish folk music filled with positive energy and ruach!

Thursday/Friday Assembly/Shabbat Party
Live music creates a different energy than pre-recorded playlists. Fun, lively and engaging, song sessions with the Musical Maggid are an infusion of ruach. Using Shabbat themed songs that easily lend themselves to participation, in addition to traditional songs like Shalom Aleichem or L’cha Dodi, we’ll get kids (and hopefully teachers) jumping and dancing, clapping and even singing in a round.
Early Childhood Classes
Preschool music with Jimmy is a blast. From our hello song through “Shalom Chaverim” we incorporate gross motor movement. Songs are filled with clapping, stomping, dancing, waving, and jumping. We develop a feel for rhythm with drums and tambourines. Song selection is a mix of Jewish and early childhood favorites.
Elementary Music Classes
Songs for Jewish Holidays and Shabbat provide many opportunities to explore musical concepts and develop abilities including listening, coordination, ordering, imagination and recall skills. We drum, shake, dance and laugh a lot while we sing old and new songs together. Students will be introduced to several instruments in the string, wind and percussion families.
Older students (grade 2 and up) solidify fundamentals in the same way and also begin basic music theory. We learn 4/4 and 3/4 time signatures, how to count out a rhythm, how to read notes on the treble clef, major scales and harmony. Midway through the year we may begin ukulele instruction.
